The MCW Department of Emergency Medicine integrates patient care, education, research, and community engagement across a broad regional network. Faculty, fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers deliver more than 200,000 emergency visits annually across multiple sites.

The Department sponsors a competitive residency program with 42 residents and provides pediatric emergency medicine training at Children’s Wisconsin, a Level 1 pediatric trauma center with more than 60,000 annual visits. Fellowship programs include EMS, Emergency Ultrasonography, Medical Toxicology, Health Executive and Administrative Leadership (HEAL), Simulation, Education Scholarship, and Research & Advancement Program for Innovation & Discovery in Emergency Medicine (RAPID-EM) with additional co-sponsored training in Critical Care Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine.
Faculty and trainees are actively engaged in extramurally funded research, with national recognition in cardiac arrest, resuscitation, injury, and EMS. Community engagement is a core mission, alongside patient care, education, and research.
